Tom Odell - Hold Me

Anticipation has been high for the release of Tom Odell's first single from upcoming album 'Long Way Down' so is it up to scratch? Well the achingly beautiful ballads that made up Odell's 'Songs From Another Love' EP have been mostly left behind for this first release in favour of a more uptempo sing-along vibe. The intense passion is still there in his voice though, backed by his beautiful piano playing and there's a soft breakdown towards the end that's reminiscent of 'Another Love', which initially marked Odell out as one to watch last year. Singer/songwriters may come and go but all the acclaim is definitely deserved in this case as Odell is that rarest of things; a credible musician with commercial appeal. Check out the official video for 'Hold Me' which sees Odell turn out a manic performance at his piano and see what all the fuss is about.

"Suddenly I'm standing on a treetop so high and all the songs and all the poets, suddenly they're right."

'Hold Me' doesn't exactly break new ground lyrically but there's a sweet sentiment behind every word that makes this song so special. I also love the energy behind the promo which makes the song even better in my opinion. People keep saying it but there's no denying it. Tom Odell is going to be a big deal when his album finally drops. April sure does seem like a long way away right about now.

So what do you think of 'Hold Me'? Does it match up to Odell's previous release 'Songs From Another Love'? Or are you more of a fan of his live lounge cover, Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble'? And did the video match your expectations? Let me know what you think by commenting, liking and sharing below.

    1. I LOVED that song and video. I wish 'Another Love' had more exposure as it must be his best song so far!
