Film School Friday Lesson #33 - How To Make The Perfect Soundtrack

film_school
Last time, Film School Friday taught loyal readers how to get the perfect beach body. Unfortunately, every time I've ventured to the coast since, all I've seen is a sea of fat wobbling around in search of the nearest ice cream stall. Why the unfortunately shaped refuse to wear clothes in the summer time is beyond me. Clearly, not enough people could get their hands on Captain America's Super Soldier Serum and pack on the muscle. Ah well. My bad.
Seeing all that jelly on the beach stressed me out and reminded me that I myself am not the stringiest of beans, so it's time we relaxed a little with today's advice. Grab your earphones, lie back and chill as we read on for today's lesson.

Disney's Frozen Review (2013) Has Disney Finally Reclaimed Its Crown?

Home On The Range, Treasure Planet, Atlantis: The Lost Empire... all is finally forgiven Disney.

Since the 1940s, the world's most iconic animation studio has tried it darndest to adapt Hans Christian Andersen's classic fable The Snow Queen, but not even the great Walt Disney could get it right. Finally, in 2013, the Magical Kingdom has nailed it with their 53rd animated classic Frozen, which had the largest ever opening weekend for a Disney animation in the studio's history.

The Women of Nine: Who's The Best?

When I heard the news that Rob Marshall would be returning to the musical genre to make the movie version of Nine, I was very excited. I'm not gonna lie, I love musicals and I loved his cinematic breakthrough Chicago. As the months rolled by and the ever growing cast of iconic actresses was announced, I could barely contain my hope and joy that this was going to be the film of the year; the big contender for best picture and the film to finally land Marshall his best director Oscar. Everything seemed to line up perfectly; a brilliant tony award winning musical, a mind blowing cast and an amazing trailer. What could possibly go wrong...

Bored of Les Miserables Yet? Try South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999)

Hands up if you've seen the film version of 'Les Miserables' yet. Keep your hands up if you thought that it was pretty good but was ultimately far too long, with many songs blending into one another... wow that's a lot of you. Ok, hands down. 'Les Miserables' is a great film with a knockout performance from Anne Hathaway but it just wasn't consistent enough for me.

Les Miserables: Trailer and Clips

The much beloved musical has finally made its way from the West End to Hollywood. It's only taken what? Over 25 years? Ok, so it took Chicago about the same amount of time to make the transition, but like Chicago, can Les Miserables duplicate its critical and commercial success? Can Tom Hooper, the Oscar winning director behind 'The Kings Speech' keep the spirit of the classic musical while still making it accessible to the cinema-going public?

With no reviews out just yet, all we've got to go on is the trailers, so lets have a look shall we?
