Power Rangers Set To Hit The Big Screen Again... Whether You Like It Or Not!

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Depending on your age, this franchise will trigger a variety of reactions. Some of you may watch the ninety billionth incarnation of the TV show currently airing and love it. Some of you may remember watching Power Rangers as a kid and feel pretty old right now... don't worry guys, I hear you! Finally, there's the older generation who won't even know what the hell I'm talking about. If so, then stick around anyway; this information will probably be useful in a few summers time.
Whatever your feelings on the Power Rangers may be, Lionsgate clearly have a lot of faith in the franchise as they have just announced a live action reboot for the brightly colored super heroes. According to the official press announcement, "the new film franchise will re-envision the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers, but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world".
Debuting in 1993, the Power Rangers regularly battled a variety of tacky robots and rubber costumed monsters in a string of barely put together plots that made zero sense to anyone over the age of seven. Random footage from the Japanese Super Sentai series was spliced throughout each episode, which may go some way to explain the fluorescent chaos on screen, but even as a child, I personally had no idea what was going on.
The Power Rangers were Initially seen as controversial by concerned mothers everywhere due to the programs violence, but that didn't stop the studio from releasing two feature films back during the franchise's heyday in the mid 1990's. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie was a financial success in 1995, but the sequel Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie fared poorly just two short years later.
Cast and crew details are yet to be announced, but Lionsgate have had a good track record recently with The Hunger Games franchise, so fans of the Power Rangers should have faith that the upcoming reboot will have high production values and maybe even a story line of some kind. I for one find that doubtful, but stranger things have happened. For example, Adam Sandler keeps making movies!
For a trip down memory lane/a nightmarish glimpse into what the reboot could look like, here's the original trailer for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.
Can the Power Rangers become as successful as the Transformers franchise? Will the reboot actually be any good? And most importantly of all, which Power Ranger did you want to be? I always liked the blue one most, but then the white one was pretty awesome too... hmmmm... Anyway! Remember to let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
