‘Scream and Shout’ Video – Will.i.am ft Britney Spears

It’s finally here. The long awaited duet between the Black Eyed Peas frontman and Miss Britney Spears has appeared online but does it live up to the hype?

Let’s start with the song. In a similar vein to their previous collaboration ‘Big Fat Bass’, ‘the new track is a club ready anthem full of shuddering beats and suggestive vocals. When I first heard ‘Scream and Shout, I felt that there was too much Will.i.am  and not enough Britney but once I gave it more of a chance, the song quickly grew on me and I found myself singing ‘oh we oh, oh we oh’ over and over without even realising it. Britney sounds amazing and her faux British accent creates a detached air that adds to the atmosphere of the song.

‘You gotta turn the shit up’

I just wish you could hear Britney more on the chorus. Damn you Will.i.am! To be fair though, the song is for his upcoming album (#willpower) and not hers. The lyrics are the usual meaningless garbage about rocking the club and Will.i.am  has brought more character to his raps in the past but ‘Scream and Shout’ was never intended to be anything more than just a banging tune for the clubs and on this level, it succeeds brilliantly.

Best moment of the song? There’s no question.

‘You are now now rocking with Will.i.am and Britney bitch!’

But what about the video?

The fast editing and kaleidoscopic effects suit the energy of the song and the promo looks high budget with all its bling and endless white backgrounds. Britney looks good and she oozes confidence but I’m not a fan of her hair being scraped up like that. Good on her though for trying a different look and mixing things up. I love the close-ups of he face behind the screen that keep cropping up towards the end, as she looks stunning in each one. I’m disappointed that neither Britney or Will.i.am do much in the way of dancing though and instead just pose in different positions. Sure they’re amazing movers and there are other dancers involved but it seems like a wasted opportunity to not have Britney show them how it’s done.

Despite all this, I’m still a fan of this promo and I think it might be a grower, just like the song was upon first listen. Make up your own mind by watching the official video, right here.

So what do you think? Is it another classic video from Miss Spears or could she have done more to make it memorable? Is this Will.i.am’s best solo venture yet or is ‘Scream and Shout’ just mindless club fodder? Let me know what you think by commenting, liking and sharing below. Thanks!
