Alanis Morissette (so hard to spell!) has a new album out on 27/08/12, called Havoc and Bright Lights, preceded by the single Guardian. Like many people, I have loved Alanis since Jagged Little Pill smashed every record in the 90s but unlike lots of people, I've continued to be a huge fan of her work, right up to her last release, Flavors of Entanglement. In this post, I want to share the best songs that Alanis has released which people might not have heard i.e. weren't on Jagged Little Pill.
Hands Clean (acoustic) - Stunning rendition of the lead single from Under Rug Swept, which was released back in 2002.
My Humps - Hilarious cover of the Black Eyed Peas song that turns the club hit into a soft, mournful ballad about 'lady lumps'. Alanis even filmed her own video for the song, which became a huge viral hit a few years back.
Straitjacket - This emotional song was written after Alanis's relationship with Ryan Reynolds ended and is alll about how being with someone can drive you literally insane. I love angry Alanis!!!
Break - It was a travesty that this song from the Flavors of Entanglement recording sessions was only released as a B Side to the second single. Break is another angry break-up song in the vein of Jagged Little Pill that would have been a highlight on any of Alanis's albums.
You Owe Me Nothing In Return - Thought I'd finish with a softer, calmer song. This stunning album track, taken again from Under Rug Swept. Its all about doing anything for the person you love, regardless of how they feel about you. Sounds cheesy but the lyrics are incredible.
Can't wait to buy the new album!!!
