Only a week to go! The last post focussed on Mercedes and Brittany, discussing what songs they should be singing in the upcoming season and what songs they should never have sung in the first place. Today I'm going for a slightly different approach as I've already discussed Sue in a previous post, so we'll focus on the character of Marley Rose, who is brand new for season 4.
Marley is going to make her debut in the very first episode of season 4, titled 'The New Rachel'. Here she is!
Looks a little bit like Rachel eh?
Apparently, the episode will be written by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, the two co-creators of Glee, so hopefully it should be a good one! The new series will be split between the regular Glee club in Mckinley High and Rachel's new life in New York. The title of the episode seems to refer to members, both old and new, fighting for the top spot now that Will is holding auditions to fill the giant Streisand-sized hole that Rachel left in the New Directions.
Marley is one of the new cast members who auditions for the group and she certainly seems like she could fill Lea Michele's shoes. Reports suggest that Marley will actually be singing a duet with Rachel, between the two locations of Ohio and New York City. The song will supposedly be Billy Joel's 'New York State of Mind' although of course, they have chosen to sing Barbra Streisand's version from 1977, which I've linked below for your viewing pleasure.
Melissa Benoist, who plays Marley Rose, has not been in much before Glee, with only a few guest appearances in shows like Homeland and Law & Order to her name. In seven days time though, you'll be seeing a lot more of her face and with the way things seem to be heading, she could eventually become the new Rachel permanently, although the writers will need to ensure that she remains uniquely her own person and not just a Berry clone. Let's wait and see.
Meanwhile, here's another sneak peek of Marley Rose to whet your appetite over the next seven days, before we see her debut in full. SLUSHY!
Keep coming back for daily updates in the countdown to Glee season 4. 1 week to go!
